ADDITIONAL THINGS

These are the things which are not absolutely necessary to posses, but will definitely place you above other photographers if you have them.
1) Tripod: Those who don't know what a tripod is, it's a three-legged stand to hold cameras still while shooting.

A typical camera tripod.
Our hands shake while shooting. It's not a problem when we shoot at higher shutter speeds, but the camera-shake is reflected in the photos which we shoot at lower shutter speeds (Don't worry, I'll write about shutter-speed later). Scott Kelby (Google him if you don't know him, and also check out his amazing tutorials on Youtube) says that every photo must be shot using a tripod. While it's not absolutely necessary to shoot on a tripod, but shooting on it gives much more depth and sharpness to photos.

2) Cable release/ Remote-shutter release: It's necessity comes into play whenever you start shooting on a tripod. Basically, you're not gonna need a tripod unless you are into long-exposure photography (I'm talking about amateurs, not professionals), and when you are into long-exposure photography, you're gonna need a cable-release/remote shutter release.

The second one doesn't fit into this post, it's necessity comes at an advanced level but I need something to fill the post. Hehe. :-D. I'll write about these later.
